Originally known as Chris Canning Barbers and situated just by the beach, the barbershop was established in Sandgate, Kent in 2008 and was known for its innovative offering of drinks and games for children while they waited as well as its friendly ambiance. May 2023 saw a move to larger premises a little further into the centre of Sandgate, still a short drive from the centre of Folkestone. 

The barbershop has always provided cutting and styling expertise, Chris being one of the very few barbers in the country who still offers the more skilful scissor over comb cuts in addition to the now common clipper cuts and popular skin fades.  In response to requests from customers, Chris now also offers long hair services suitable for ladies or gents.

It has also been very much at the heart of the community with work experience placements on offer to local schools, participation in charity fund raising e.g. for 'help for heroes', etc. 

Chris trained with the Regis Salon and gained his qualification in hairdressing through the AlanD College. He has a particular talent for cutting and a creative eye and soon shifted his focus to barbering. He carried on the tradition of training others, having both the patience and the expertise to educate and inspire confidence in his trainees. His teaching ability is recognised and he has been approached many times to train others.  His teaching is particularly valuable as he also teaches aspiring barbers the scissor over comb technique whilst modern training only covers the less skilful clipper cut training.

Chris has trained many apprentice barbers, who have qualified and many of whom have gone on to start their own businesses. This has sometimes arisen out of work-experience placements through local schools.
